cfss_header_logoThe United Kingdom’s pre-eminent champion for promoting the social sciences, The Campaign for Social Science (CfSS), today welcomed SAGE’s Global Publishing Director, Ziyad Marar to its 14 strong board – made up of both academics and policy makers. Ziyad is the only appointed publisher.

Launched four years ago by the Academy of Social Sciences, the Campaign’s aim is to raise both awareness of and the profile of the social sciences and the funding challenges that face them. Highlighting their impact on our daily lives and society, policy at large, the work done by the Campaign has had, and continues to have, a significant impact on the perception of the social sciences in the UK.

Since joining SAGE over 25 years ago, Ziyad has played a pivotal role in both initiating and ZM - 4supporting SAGE’s global work in campaigning for the social sciences. This has included working alongside key organizations to lobby against government acts and threats to social science funding, as well as working with key policy figures and academics to publish research outputs into the challenges against social sciences in the UK. Part of this work has also included working alongside the Campaign, the latest of these efforts being the support of the Campaign’s pre-election report The Business of People to be published by SAGE in February.

Welcoming Ziyad to the board, chair of the Campaign, Professor James Wilsdon, said:

“As a thinker, writer and publisher, Ziyad Marar has for many years been a dynamic and persuasive advocate on behalf of social science, here in the UK, in the US and further afield,” said. “We’re delighted to welcome Ziyad onto the board of the Campaign for Social Science, and look forward to benefiting from his energy and ideas. This also goes further to strengthen our relationship with SAGE, which has done a tremendous amount to support the work of the Campaign”
