On SAGE Insight: Why Did a Majority of White Women Vote for Trump?

From New Labor Forum

This paper examines the recent American election where Trump beat Clinton to become the President of the USA, and discusses the role of the female vote in his win. No single fact about the highly improbable election of Donald Trump seems to be more confounding than the fact that Trump’s margin of victory included a slim majority of white women voters. 53 percent of white women voters pulled the lever for Trump. Trump claimed 45 percent of college-educated white women voters, as well. Age was the biggest predictor of white women’s support for Clinton—Millennial white women were the only ones Clinton won. The authors suggest they have enough information to identify the categories of Trump-voting women: the wealthy, the white supremacist, the evangelical, the security voter, and the worker.
