ALA Attendees: Tweet to win tickets to laugh with Paula Poundstone

Laugh to winIn their daily interactions with students, researchers, and library patrons of all stripes, librarians are bound to hear (and overhear) humorous remarks that provide comic relief all the time. So what’s the funniest one you’ve ever heard? Share the words that that have caused you to smile, stifle a giggle, or ROFL between the stacks – and earn a chance for further hilarity by entering to win two tickets to the “The Laugh’s on Us, Sponsored by SAGE,” a United for Libraries event.

Taking place on Sunday, June 29 at 5:30 p.m. in the Versailles Ballroom at the Paris in Las Vegas, Laugh’s on Us 2014 is once again headlined by Paula Poundstone, acclaimed standup comic known for her spontaneous observational comedy. This year’s event also features comedians Anthony Breznican, Stephanie Evanovich, Eric Kaplan, and Issa Rae. Wine and cheese will be served and a book signing with the comedians will follow!

To enter, we invite 2014 ALA Annual attendees to tweet an answer to the following question using the hashtag #librarylaughs:

What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever heard a library patron say?

The contest opens today, June 3 and ends on Friday, June 13th at 11:59PM EST. The winner will be chosen based on originality, clarity in conveying the remark in 140 characters or less, and of course, comedic appeal.

All entrants must use the hashtag #librarylaughs to enter and must be attending the ALA Annual Conference in Las Vegas on Sunday, June 29. While we invite entrants to share as many comical comments as they wish, only the first entry per Twitter account will be considered. See the official rules below for more details.

OFFICIAL RULES

By participating in this promotion entrants agree to be bound by these Official Rules and by the decisions of the Sponsor, which are final in all matters relating to this promotion.

No purchase or payment of any kind is necessary to win.  A purchase will not improve your chances of winning.

ELIGIBILITY:
The promotion is open to all  individuals who are at least 18 years of age at the time of entry or age of majority in the jurisdiction of residence at the time of entry and who are attending the American Library Association Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada, in June 27-30, 2014. These Official Rules are void where prohibited or restricted by law and are subject to all applicable federal, provincial, and local laws and regulations. All employees of the Sponsor and their immediate families (spouse, parent, sibling or child or their respective spouses) or those residing in the same households of employees, whether related or not, are not eligible to enter or to win.

TIMING:

You may enter the promotion as provided herein from 7:00 AM PST on Tuesday June 3, 2014 through 11:59 PM PST on June 13, 2014 PST (the “Entry Period”).

HOW TO ENTER:

During the Entry Period, an eligible entrant may visit http://www. Twitter.com, log on to his or her Twitter account (or create one if he or she does not already have an account), and tweet an answer to the following question: What’s the funniest thing that you have ever heard a library patron say? Entrant may submit an entry during the Entry Period by answering the question in one tweet (140 characters or less) including the hashtag #librarylaughs. Each tweet will count as one entry and entrant may submit only one entry. If multiple tweets are made using the hashtag from the same account, only the first tweet will be considered. Additional tweets will not result in additional entries.

Entrant must have a non-private Twitter account to enter the promotion. Entrant may only use one (1) Twitter account to enter. Entrants attempting to use multiple Twitter accounts or multiple identities may be disqualified, at Sponsor’s sole discretion.

Entrant’s use of Twitter will be subject to Twitter’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service at www.twitter.com.

PRIZE DETAILS:
A total of one (1) prize will be awarded. The prize consists of two tickets to “The Laugh’s on Us, Sponsored by SAGE” event at the American Library Association Conference on Sunday, June 29 2014 from 5:30 to 7:30 PM PST valued at no more than One Hundred and Twenty Dollars ($120.00 USD). The Sponsor may, at its sole discretion, substitute prize of equal or greater value (including cash) in the event the stated prize is unavailable. Prize cannot be substituted, redeemed for cash or transferred except as otherwise provided in these Official Rules. The refusal by an entrant to accept a prize releases and forever discharges the Sponsor of all obligations related to the prize, including delivery, and this promotion. Any costs associated with a prize that are not described in these Official Rules are the responsibility of the winner.

AWARDING OF PRIZE:
One first place winner will be selected from all eligible entries received during the Entry Period. Sponsor will consider the following three (3) factors in selecting the winner: (1) the entrant’s originality; (2) clarity in conveying the response; and (3) comedic appeal. Notwithstanding anything herein to the contrary, selection of the winner shall be at Sponsor’s sole discretion.

Potential winners may be required to execute and return an affidavit of eligibility, a liability release and, where legal, a publicity release within fourteen (14) days of prize notification. In the event of noncompliance with this time period, with these Official Rules or if prize or prize notification is returned as undeliverable, prize may be forfeited and awarded to an alternate winner as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion.

ODDS OF WINNING:
Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received during the Entry Period.

GENERAL CONDITIONS:
Each entrant hereby acknowledges and agrees that entry in the promotion constitutes permission for the Sponsor and its designees to: (i) contact selected entrants directly using contact information provided in their entry in connection with this promotion; and (ii) use each winner’s name, city/state  or province/territory of residence and/or likeness for advertising, promotional, and other purposes in any and all media now or hereafter known throughout the world in perpetuity, without further compensation, notification and permission, except where prohibited by law, and the prize winner agrees to confirm such permission in writing promptly upon request.
